LASG TRAINS STAFF FOR GREATER ACHIEVEMENTS

Lagos State Government today stated that it is preparing its workforce for years ahead through training and retraining exercises aimed at sustaining and surpassing the achievements of the State in the last 50 years.

The Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Dr. Akintola Benson-Oke, made the assertion at the opening ceremony of a training programme, tagged: “Effective Strategic Management for Repositioning and Higher Responsibilities” organised for directors in the State employ.

While emphasising the importance of the theme of the training programme to the vision of the current administration, the Commissioner explained that the importance of strategy, strategic planning and strategic management has been proven and validated over years to be very effective in achieving an organisation’s set goals.

He said further that the training would identify areas where the State Public Service would need to evolve, or innovate, or re-position for better service delivery.

According to the Commissioner, the State government recognises the workforce as the engine room for its various achievements, hence its decision to continually retool and retrain them for the delivery of more quality services to the citizenry.

“As it was evident to all during the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the State where arrays of projects were commissioned and delivered to the residents of the State, the government believes that the workforce were instrumental to its success story and deemed it necessary to further hone the skills of these crop of officers so that they can do more in the years ahead,” he said.

He stated that from the various achievements, the State Government would no longer be benchmarked against any State in the country, but would rather compete with other developed cities across the globe and therefore asked participants to improve themselves and get ready for global standards.
