2024 PROMOTION EXERCISE: PERMANENT SECRETARY ADVISES CIVIL SERVANTS TO EMBRACE SELF-DEVELOPMENT
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Olubusola Abidakun, has advised participants sitting for promotion to embrace self-development and improve their knowledge to contribute positively to the THEMES Plus Development Agenda of the present administration.
She gave the advice on Monday during the flag-off ceremony for the year 2024 promotion exercise for Officers on Grade Levels 1-16 in Parastatal Organisations as well as officers on Grade Levels 01-06 in the Mainstream Civil Service under the Revised Structured Training programme held at the Public Service Staff Development Centre, Magodo.
While charging the participants to be prepared for their new promotion positions, Abidakun counselled them to continue to excel, be relevant and consequential in their respective duty posts.
“You must be prepared to train your downlines whilst at the same time continuing to learn from your uplines. You must represent the State very well in all that you do and let your achievements align with the goals of your respective agencies”, she said.
The Permanent Secretary advised the eligible officers that they must not see the exercise as just a promotion to another level but as a process whereby they would make an impact in the lives of downlines and assist their uplines to attain set goals and objectives.
Reminding them of the history of the introduction of the Revised Structured Training, she said the exercise was a fallout of the decision that it was not only through written examination that Officers’ competence could be assessed, noting that it could also be assessed through job-specific parameters, interviews and online virtual training.
The Revised Structured Training for Officers in the State parastatal organisations, with such components as job-specific and cross-cutting, began simultaneously at two centres including the Public Service Staff Development Centre, Magodo and Women Development Centre, Agege. Over 1000 officers between Grade Level 01 and 16 cutting across different cadres are taking part in the job-specific and cross-cutting training.
