LAGOS TASKS MANAGERS ON EXEMPLARY LEADERSHIP

The Lagos State Government has urged its staff on management cadre to promote teamwork and imbibe the culture of mentoring their subordinates for purpose of achieving the vision of the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode-led administration and for the realization of the expectation of the masses.

Speaking at the opening of a training workshop organised by the State government for management-cadre staff, the Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Dr. Akintola Benson-Oke, charged Directors in various Ministries, Departments and Agencies to see leadership beyond years of experience in service but as a call to maximize the efficiency of staff to achieve short and long-term goals of the government.

He said the theme of the workshop,  “The Value of Coaching for Higher Service”, aptly described the aim of the organisers which is to encourage leaders to demonstrate confidence in building a leadership style that can motivate staff to perform better in the discharge of their official duties, irrespective of positions they occupy.

According to him, “Superiors are advised not to underestimate the impact of coaching of their subordinates, frequent coaching creates a fundamental shift in the approach to work, increases self-confidence and enables employees to produce resilient results”.

Benson-Oke maintained that government remains committed to its vision of developing latent abilities of public servants in the State into production engagement and exponential growths in Lagos.

“Leadership is not about a title or a designation, its all about impact, influence and inspiration; impacting in getting more results and to increase the passion you have for your work”, he said.
